Lilly’s Losers

October 26th, 2017

Hall County High School Football

That little-upset bug was buzzing around Hall County pigskin fields this week. Coach Hall’s horticulture men pulled an upset down in Athens over Clarke Central. A pack of Red Elephants rumbled over to Winder and were given no chance to win. However, they stood up firm on their rear feet and beat the #7 team in the state. Buford toyed around with Walnut Grove, and the Sardis War Birds were shot down by their Northern neighbor, White County. Coach Gruhn’s Pride were shown no grace or mercy from the Christian men of Hebron, and the same scenario played out in Norcross where GAC was unchristlike to the Northern Nation. Awesome Dawson put more points on the board than East Hall for, a lot of points, for a good region win.

Gainesville VS. Apalachee

It is homecoming at City Park, and the Red Pack will look to stomp on the crazy cats from Winder. A win on Friday night and Big Red is in the playoffs for the 18th straight year. The App cats will be tuff enough, but the wrinkled skins will win and be in the state once again.

Lilly’s Loser- Apalachee

Chestatee VS. Marist

The War Birds will have to leave the nest in Sardis and travel down to the ATL for a pigskin match against The Marist school. It is bad enough they put a “The” in their school name, but having to deal with Atlanta traffic is too much. This game will be over once Chestatee hits the parking lot if they ever do get there on time.

Lilly’s Loser- Chestatee

Johnson VS. Cedar Shoals

The Johnson Dungeon will be dark and scary on Friday night when the exotic cats of Cedar Shoals come to the kingdom. I sure dow with the sky blue boys could win a game, but I can’t see it happening this week.

Lilly’s Loser- Johnson

West Hall VS. White County

Lotti’s Lads will make a trip up the highway to face an ever-improving White County team in a hot region contest. Both sides are 1-1 in the region, so this pigskin battle with be massive! Look for the Hot Gates to get hot, get cold, and then get hot again in this game. White County is a good team, but West Hall will be just a little bit better of a team this week.

Lilly’s Loser- White County

North Hall VS. East Hall

There will be a directional pigskin battle over in Valhalla this week. The Northern Nation will try to stop the marauding fur skin men of East Hall, but they will be beaten and punished for their efforts. The god of thunder will be proud and smile on the Vikings after they run off the Mean Green from their frozen shores.

Lilly’s Losers- North Hall

Lakeview VS. Towns County

Trivia. When did Towns County win the first homecoming game in school history? On 10/13/2017! Yes! Two weeks ago. Hard to believe, isn’t it? However, the Pride over at Limestone Parkway Academy is having a tough go of it this year, and they will have to play out of their fur to win on the road. In a close one.

College Football

Paul Johnson’s, fish fry, bumble bees are getting better, and it showed in a win over the Deacons last week. The U picked up another win over a good Syracuse team. The liver spot bulldogs of Miss. State blew out the UK Wildcats, and Bama made life for ol’ Sargent Carter a lot harder at Tennessee.

The Keystone kitties travel to Columbus looking to repeat last year’s upset against Urban Meyer’s Buckeyes. Coach James Franklin has led the Nittany Lions to a thus far perfect season on the back of scat cat Saquon Barkley and a strong defense. But this year the Lucky Nuts are at home and according to them, The Shoe Fits. Their five-star lineup and home-field advantage will be just enough to help them declaw the cats.

Lilly’s Loser by a whisker: Penn State.

Georgia and Florida

It’s time for the annual football soiree where the St. Johns River flows south to north. The politically correct police say it’s not proper to use the “C” word anymore. Two teams headed in different directions, akin to two blue-chip stocks. one south, one north. So it is with the Water Lizards of football guru Jim McElwain and head kennel Kirby Smart.Upsets and surprise finishes are legend in this border war. Uncle Percy tells me to buy the stock that is on the rise and whose logo is a dog with a nasty underbite.

Tennessee at Kentucky:

The candy strippers from east Tennessee are headed to bluegrass country in Kentucky for the annual “Battle for the Beer Barrel” Feline chieftain Mark Stoops has had the Wildcat faithful for their first championship since Adolph Rupp got a Cadillac for winning the hoops title and Bear Bryant received a watch for the Cats lone SEC football title. The felines are hoping for a bowl bid and they keep ribbing the rabbit’s foot. Tennessee football admiral is trying to keep his Volunteer ship afloat, but his ship is akin to a piece of Swiss cheese in a bathtub. The mice are not jumping off the ship and there are many holes to plug. A mutiny could be in the offing.

Clemson vs. Georgia Tech: Dabo’s gang is coming off an embarrassing loss the Orangemen from Syracuse.  Not only was the game lost, so was starting QB Kelly Bryant.  But playoff aspirations are still in the mix if they can get back on track this week against the honeybees of Georgia Tech.  Paul Johnson brings his stingers from Atlanta into Death Valley with the season in the balance.  But after a two-week rest, Dabo’s Tigers will pluck those stingers on Frank Howard Field.

Lilly’s Losers- Georgia Tech

Notre Dame vs. NC State: The Pack makes their way to South Bend, Indiana to take on the Fighting Irish.   Both clubs are playing their best ball of the season with respective 6-1 records.  One will walk away with their hopes dented after this one.  Brian Kelly is warning the fans not to take the stray dogs lightly, and the Raleigh growlers will be rowdy at kickoff, but it won’t be enough to steal the Irish gold.

Lilly’s Losers- NC State

Lilly’s Losers is in honor of Leonard Postero who created the original Leonard’s Losers. Many fans, to this day, love the wit and humor of his football prognostications.
These musing are just for fun during the high school and NCAA football seasons.
Also, we will miss our friend Shaw Carter. He was a better man than all of us!
