Spaghettification

April 17th, 2019

That’s what happens as you fall into – The BIG Black Hole – 6.5 billion times as massive as our Sun.

Until now black holes have never been seen. Instead their existence as we know it today is a result of numerical predictions: Karl Schwarzschild using Einstein’s equations – 1915. A variety of theories attempt to explain what black holes are, how they behave and what they should look like; we’ve even measured the gravitational waves they can produce, surf’s up Scotty.

Einstein got it right one more time, but not even he thought black holes could be real, too far out even for Albert.

A telescope, composed of eight radio telescopes in different parts of the world, when synchronized, as large as our entire world, captured the image. Not of the black hole, light can’t escape the gravitational pull of the black hole, but of, light bending as it’s getting sucked in, never to be seen again: Spaghettification, otherwise known as the noodle effect.

When Black Holes Becomes Real, StarTrek is within reach; soon it will be “Alexa bacon and eggs” and poof, they’ll show up, and on a plate, thank you very much. Until then, three cheers for humanity and our inherent optimism – we triumph once again.

Does it mean anything?

Yes, this is why I think the value of our companies as measured by the S&P 500 has climbed from $17.05 starting Jan of 1950 to $2,907 as of April 1st, 2019 – every day a bunch of people, wake up, clean up, go to work and innovate to make things better for us, their customers. Remember your life without the iPhone?

Spaghettify and the noodle effect – recipe next week….
